At Abbarajupalem, the Bhoomi Puja Ceremony for the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy Amaravati was conducted by Padma Vibhushan awardee Pullela Gopichand, along with his family members, marking a powerful new chapter for the state’s sports ecosystem.

A world-class Badminton Academy in Amaravati is officially underway on a 12-acre project site, symbolizing the state’s renewed commitment toward building a vibrant Amaravati Sports City. This project is expected to become a major training hub for future national and international champions.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has long envisioned 9 Themed Cities within Amaravati, and a dedicated Sports City is a key part of that blueprint. Today’s groundbreaking ceremony marks the first decisive step in bringing that vision to life.
అమరావతిలో నవ నగరాలను సృష్టించాలని రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వం సంకల్పం వ్యక్తం చేసింది. అందులో భాగంగా స్పోర్ట్స్ సిటీ నిర్మాణం ముఖ్యమైన అంశం. ఈ రోజు జరిగిన భూమిపూజ కార్యక్రమం — ఈ మహత్తర లక్ష్యానికి తొలి అడుగు.
Under Gopichand’s leadership, the academy will be developed with global standards and advanced facilities. The construction is planned to be completed within three years, after which a 10% quota will be reserved for local youth, ensuring regional talent gets the opportunity to train at the highest level.

🏸 12 Acres of Freehold Land Allocated for the Academy
The government had allocated this 12-acre land parcel in Abbarajupalem back in 2017 under a freehold category, giving complete rights and long-term security to the project.
According to the original agreement:
- All approvals must be taken,
- Construction must be completed within three years,
- International-level training and accommodation facilities must be provided,
- Local sportspersons must be encouraged and supported.
To support this vision, the state allotted the land at ₹10 lakh per acre under full freehold rights. Registration charges were also offered at concessional rates. Moreover, Gopichand has full freedom to develop or transfer the land as required for the academy’s growth.
This flexibility reflects the government’s intent to speed up the project and establish Amaravati as a major sports hub.
